Understanding the White Card

What Is a White Card?

A White Card demonstrates that a person has completed General Construction Induction Training. Construction sites can present a variety of hazards and risks, and workers are expected to understand basic workplace safety requirements before entering these environments.

The course is designed to provide a basic understanding of construction safety and workplace responsibilities.

Successful completion of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry results in a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment and supports the regulated general construction induction outcome commonly referred to as the White Card. Applicable Western Australian identity, location, participation and card-issuance requirements must also be satisfied.

White Card training introduces learners to:

  • Workplace health and safety principles
  • Hazard identification
  • Risk management
  • Safe work practices
  • Emergency procedures
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Communication and reporting requirements
Protecting Yourself & Others

Why Construction Safety Matters

Construction sites are constantly changing environments. Understanding how to recognise hazards and follow safety procedures helps create safer workplaces for everyone on site.

Construction safety is not only about following rules — it's about protecting yourself, your colleagues and members of the public.

Workers may be exposed to:

  • Heavy machinery
  • Working at heights
  • Electrical hazards
  • Excavation activities
  • Mobile plant and vehicles
  • Manual handling risks
  • Noise hazards
  • Falling objects
  • Slips, trips and falls
Is a White Card Right for You?

Who Should Complete a White Card Course?
