Does a White Card Expire in WA? Validity and Replacement Guide

White Cards do not have an expiry date, but there is an important two-year rule in WA. Here is what...

A White Card shows you have completed construction induction training. Many workers ask whether it expires and what to do if they lose it. Here is what WorkSafe WA says.

Does a White Card Expire?

No, a White Card has no expiry date, and repeat training is not mandatory while you keep working in construction. However, there is one important exception.

The Two-Year Rule

According to WorkSafe WA, your White Card becomes invalid if you leave the construction industry for two consecutive years or longer. If that happens, you need to complete construction induction training again before returning to site.

This rule exists because sites, equipment and safety practices change, and workers returning after a long break need a refresher on current hazards and procedures.

Lost or Damaged Your White Card?

WorkSafe WA explains how to get a replacement:

  • Look up the RTO that issued your card using the WorkSafe construction induction card database
  • Contact that RTO and ask for a replacement card
  • If the RTO has closed, use your Statement of Attainment to ask another RTO about re-issuing a card
  • If you can’t find your card details, the RTO name or your Statement of Attainment, you will need to complete the training again

Old Blue Cards

WorkSafe WA accepts both the older blue cards and White Cards as proof of construction induction training, as long as they remain valid.

Interstate White Cards

If you completed nationally accredited construction induction training in another state or territory, it is recognised in WA when you can show evidence of completion.

When Should You Redo Your Training?

  • You have been out of construction for two years or more
  • You have lost your card and can’t find your training records
  • Your employer or site asks for recent training
  • You want a refresher on current safety practices
