SNS College of Western Australia (RTO 53034) is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) delivering the nationally recognised SITHFAB021 – Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol unit. This unit provides learners with the skills and knowledge required to responsibly sell, serve or supply alcohol in accordance with relevant liquor legislation and workplace requirements.
What is this unit used for?
SITHFAB021 – Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol is a nationally recognised unit commonly required for individuals who sell, serve or supply alcohol as part of their role.
The unit applies across a range of hospitality and service environments where alcohol is provided to customers in accordance with legal and organisational requirements.
This unit is commonly required for roles such as:
- Cafe and Restaurant Managers
- Chefs
- Cafe Workers
- Bar Attendants and Baristas
- Cooks
How is the course delivered?
Training is delivered via a blended model incorporating face-to-face training and online pre-course learning.

What will you learn?
This unit develops the skills and knowledge required to responsibly sell, serve or supply alcohol.
- Follow the principles of responsible service of alcohol
- Assist customers to drink within appropriate limits
- Assess alcohol affected customers and identify those to whom sale or service must be refused
- Refuse to provide alcohol
How is the course structured?
Assessment for this unit is competency based and conducted by qualified assessors in accordance with the training package requirements.
Learners are assessed using a combination of:
- Direct observation of performance in simulated hospitality scenarios
- Structured questioning to assess underpinning knowledge
- Scenario-based activities reflecting responsible service situations
What are the entry requirements?
There are no formal prerequisites for this unit. However, learners must:
- Be 18 years of age or over
- Be living or working in Australia
- Have basic computer skills
- Have sufficient Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills
*Learners who do not meet the LLN requirements may still enrol into the course provided the enrolment has been endorsed by the trainer and corresponding additional support strategies have been put in place.
Licensing, Legislative, Regulatory or Certification Considerations:
SITHFAB021 – Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol addresses the skills and knowledge required to responsibly sell, serve or supply alcohol in accordance with relevant liquor legislation.
There is no mandated expiry period for RSA training in Western Australia. However, employers and licensing authorities may require refresher training based on workplace requirements or changes to legislation.
Completion of this unit does not guarantee employment. Employers determine role suitability and any additional workplace requirements.

RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) Training
SNS College offers the RSA (SITHFAB021 – Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol) course as an online training program.
This course is available Monday to Friday and is delivered fully online, allowing students to complete the training remotely.
Students are required to enrol in the course and complete the required online learning modules and assessment activities. These learning modules will guide students through the responsibilities of serving alcohol safely and legally.
Once enrolled, students will receive access to the online training system, where they must complete all learning modules and assessments to successfully finish the course.

Is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) available?
Due to the practical and compliance-focused nature of this unit, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is not offered for SITHFAB021 – Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol.
Learners are required to complete all training and assessment activities to ensure current competence in line with legislative and workplace expectations.
