SNS College of Western Australia (RTO 53034) is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) delivering nationally recognised training.
The CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) provides learners with practical skills aligned to entry-level roles in community, home and residential care settings. This qualification prepares individuals to support people who may require assistance due to ageing, disability or other support needs, while working under supervision and following individualised care plans within a multidisciplinary team. Successful completion of this qualification will result in a nationally recognised Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability).

How is the course delivered?
This qualification is delivered using a blended model consisting of:
- Face-to-face training sessions
- Online learning and assessment activities
- Mandatory vocational placement
Course Duration: The expected course duration is up to 52 weeks, depending on delivery scheduling and individual learner progression.

- CHCPAL003 Deliver care services using a palliative approach
- CHCDIS011 Contribute to ongoing skills development using a strengths-based approach
- CHCDIS012 Support community participation and social inclusion
- CHCDIS020 Work effectively in disability support
How is the course structured?
Learners are assessed using a combination of:
- Direct observation during simulated or workplace-based activities
- Structured questioning (verbal and/or written)
- Scenario-based activities and case studies
- Projects, role plays and practical demonstrations
- Supplementary third-party evidence (where applicable)
Assessment decisions are made by qualified assessors. Third-party reports may be used as supporting evidence only and do not replace assessor observation or judgement.
What are the entry requirements?
There are no formal prerequisites for this qualification. However, it is preferred that learners:
- Are 18 years of age and over
- Are living or working in Australia
- Have successfully completed at least Australian high school year 10, or equivalent
- Have basic computer skills
- Have sound Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills*
- Are able to perform manual handling tasks safely
Learners who do not initially meet LLN requirements may still enrol where appropriate
support strategies are identified and approved.
This qualification is delivered in accordance with relevant Commonwealth and Western
Australian legislation and industry standards applicable to aged care and disability support
work. Learners are trained in their legal and ethical responsibilities, including duty of care,
dignity of risk, mandatory reporting and working in line with the Aged Care Quality
Standards.
Additional regulatory, screening or employer-specific requirements (such as police checks,
vaccinations or workplace policies) may apply depending on vocational placement or
employment context. Further information is provided in the Student Handbook.
Completion of this qualification does not guarantee employment. Employment and
registration outcomes are subject to employer and regulatory requirements, including
screening checks and organisational policies.
What are the resources needed to complete the course?
To support you in your new course with SNS College of Western Australia, we will provide students access to:

- Digital learning platform for pre-course learning and knowledge assessments

Vocational Placement
This qualification includes mandatory vocational placement.
Placement requirements:
- Minimum of 120 hours in an approved aged care setting
- Placement occurs after completion of all other units
- Learners must complete a skills workbook during placement
Learners may:
- Source their own placement (subject to approval), or
- Request assistance from SNS College to identify suitable providers
SNS College provides a Vocational Placement Pack outlining workplace
requirements and assessment expectations
Placement providers must allow access to:
- Opportunities to participate in meetings, planning and reporting activities
- Qualified workplace supervisors Clients with diverse support needs
- Relevant workplace documentation, equipment and resources
Additional requirements before placement
Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures (HLTINF006)
Learners must attend the online training sessions for HLTINF006 and complete the knowledge assessment before they go on work placement. Practical assessment tasks are to be completed during work placement.
Provide first aid (HLTAID011)
Learners must hold HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid prior to commencing vocational placement.
This unit may be completed through an external Registered Training Organisation. Evidence of a current and valid Statement of Attainment must be provided before placement commencement.

Course fees
The total course fee is $2,500.
Default payment plan for individual students:
- $1,000 on enrolment
- $750 prior to commencement of vocational placement
- $750 upon completion of course requirements

Is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) available?
SNS College offers Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) to recognise existing skills and knowledge gained through work experience, training or life experience. RPL may reduce the time required to complete this qualification. Refer to the RPL Policy for further information.
