SNS College of Western Australia (RTO 53034) is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) delivering the nationally recognised HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid unit. This unit provides learners with the skills and knowledge required to respond to first aid situations in accordance with current Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and other relevant national standards. Successful completion of this unit will result in a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.
What is this unit used for?
HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid is a nationally recognised unit that is commonly required for workplace first aid roles across a range of industries.
The unit supports individuals who may be required to provide a first aid response in the workplace or community setting until medical assistance arrives.

How is the course delivered?
This course is delivered as a blended program consisting of:

- Online pre-course learning and knowledge assessment

- One (1) full day of face-to-face practical training and assessment

What will you learn?
This course is designed to develop your expertise in first aid. Among others, you will learn to:

- Communicate details of an incident to emergency services and workplace personnel

- Review and evaluate the incident and first aid response
How is the course structured?
Assessment for this unit is competency based and conducted by qualified assessors in accordance with the training package requirements.
Learners are assessed using a combination of:

- Direct observation of practical first aid skills in simulated scenarios
-
- Structured questioning to assess underpinning knowledge
-
- Scenario-based activities reflecting workplace first aid situations
Assessment must be completed in line with unit requirements, including practical demonstration of CPR and first aid skills in simulated environments.
What are the entry requirements?
There are no formal prerequisites for this unit. However, learners must:

- Be 18 years of age or over

- Be living or working in Australia
-
- Have basic computer skills
-
- Have sufficient Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills to participate in training and assessment
Numeracy and Literacy
Language, literacy and numeracy requirements are needed to undertake this course. Specifically, students need the ability to:

- Prepare verbal incident reports or provide information to enable preparation of an incident report (e.g. a first aid report)

- Communicate effectively and assertively in an incident (e.g. give a casualty handover)

- Use literacy and numeracy skills as required to read, interpret and apply guidelines and protocols (e.g. read and follow ARC guidelines)
*Learners who do not meet the LLN requirements may still enrol into the course provided the enrolment has been endorsed by the trainer and corresponding additional support strategies have been put in place.
Physical attributes requirements
This course requires students to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single-rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor. They also must be able to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles, both compressions and ventilations) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface.
Students are also required to perform manual handling tasks safely.
Therefore, prospective students need to have the physical attributes to be able to:

- Bring themselves to floor level to perform the above task.

- Perform each of the above tasks uninterrupted for two minutes.

- Have the physical capacity to perform manual handling tasks safely.
Licensing, Legislative, Regulatory or Certification Considerations:
HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid is delivered in accordance with current Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and relevant workplace health and safety requirements.
In Western Australia, First aid training is generally recommended to be refreshed every three (3) years in accordance with Safe Work Australia guidance.
Specific workplace or industry requirements may vary. Learners should confirm requirements with their employer or relevant authority.

What are the course fees?

Classes are scheduled Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Please select the date you want to enrol in.
Students are required to attend one full day only. The date you select will be your confirmed training day.
Before attending the class, please make sure you complete the online training modules and the knowledge assessment.

Is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) available?
Due to the practical and safety-critical nature of this unit, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is not available for HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid.
Learners are required to complete all training and assessment activities to ensure current competence in line with first aid guidelines and workplace expectations.
