CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry

SNS College of Western Australia (RTO #53034) is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) delivering the nationally recognised CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry unit, which provides learners with the required knowledge and skills to meet general construction induction training requirements.


What is this unit used for?

CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry is a mandatory general induction unit required before a person can enter or work on a construction site.

The unit covers the essential work health and safety knowledge needed to recognise hazards, follow safety procedures and meet legislative requirements when working in construction environments.

This unit is suitable for individuals entering the construction industry or those required to refresh their general induction training in accordance with regulatory requirements.


How is the course delivered?

This course is delivered using a blended model consisting of:

    • Online learning and knowledge assessment
      • Face-to-face training and assessment conducted in a supervised environment

Expected Study Hours: Typical learners are expected to spend approximately 12 hours depending on existing knowledge, skills, and experience.

        What will you learn?

          This course is designed to develop your expertise in construction. Among others, you will learn to:

                • Identify health and safety legislative requirements of construction work
                • Identify construction hazards and risk control measures
                • Identify health and safety communication and reporting processes
                • Identify incident and emergency response procedures

            How is the course structured?

              All learners will be assessed through:

                    • Observation during on-the-job or role play/simulation
                    • Questioning may include self-assessment, verbal answers, written questionnaires, activity modules or interview
                    • Structured Activities may include Projects, Case studies, presentations, role play, demonstration, progressive tasks

                What are the entry requirements?

                  Students must:

                        • Be 18 years of age and over
                        • Be living or working in Australia 
                        • Have successfully completed at least Australian high school year 10, or equivalent 
                        • Have basic computer skills
                        • Have sound Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills*

                  *Learners who do not meet the LLN requirements may still enrol into the course provided the enrolment has been endorsed by the trainer and corresponding additional support strategies have been put in place.


                      Licensing, Legislative, Regulatory or Certification Considerations:

                        Successful completion of this unit may contribute towards eligibility to apply for a Construction Induction Training (White Card) in Western Australia.

                          White Card issuance is subject to regulatory requirements and is not guaranteed upon completion of training. Learners must meet all identity verification and regulatory requirements at the time of assessment.

                            The White Card may become invalid if the holder has not carried out construction work for a period of two consecutive years or more, in accordance with regulatory requirements.

                                      To complete your course, you will need ongoing access to the following:

                                            • A computer or laptop with internet access (preferably Google Chrome)
                                            • MS Word or compatible software
                                            • Adobe Acrobat Reader
                                            • Personal stationery

                                        What are the course fees?

                                          The CPCWHS1001 course fee is $65.00 (upfront). Fees are subject to change. Please refer to the Fees and Refunds Policy for full terms and conditions, including payment terms, cancellations, and refund conditions.


                                              White Card (CPCWHS1001) Training Sessions

                                                SNS College offers White Card training Monday to Friday, with four sessions available each day. Each session includes supervised training and assessment conducted in a face-to-face environment.

                                                  Students are required to select one session only when enrolling. The session you choose will be your confirmed training time.

                                                                        Is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) available?

                                                                          Due to the nature of this unit and licensing requirements, all learners must complete the unit via the Learning and Assessment Pathway.
